What’s Happening in Fourth Grade
Week of February 10, 2020
Reading (Mrs. Isaminger):
This week, the students will finish reading Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O’Dell.
The students will finish chapter questions for chapters 9-16 and begin a class project over
the book. In addition, the students will be learning how to participate in their first literature
circle discussion. There will be a quiz over chapters 9-16 on Thursday, February 13th.

This week, the students will finish chapter 6 of Shurley English. Chapter 6 teaches possessive
nouns, interjections, clauses, subordinate conjunctions, and complex sentences. There will be a

This week, the students will continue researching a chosen sea animal for the purpose of writing a
research paper.

Bible (Miss Reech)
MV: Acts 4:12 - “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under
heaven given to men by which we must be saved.” This week students will be learning
how salvation is through Christ alone. Our Bible test will be on Thursday, February 13.

Social Studies (Miss Reech)
We will begin learning about our nation’s regions, and we will start with the Northeast
Region. Students will learn about the history and geography of New England. This is
Chapter 3 in the blue textbook. The new vocabulary words are listed on the blog, and
students will locate these states on a map. We will also have a mystery Skype this week!

We will continue our unit on electric circuits. In cooperative groups, students will use
batteries, wires, and lightbulbs to create a closed circuit. They will learn the difference
between series and parallel circuits. They will have a vocabulary test on
Thursday, February 13. In the Innovation Lab, the students will create shoe box
rooms with multiple working circuits. The students have been given their packet for
the Science Fair project. They need to keep this packet in their Jaques folder
at all times.
