Week of February 3, 2020

What’s Happening in Fourth Grade


Week of February 3, 2020


Reading (Mrs. Isaminger):
This week, the students will continue reading Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O’Dell.
The students will continue working on chapter questions for chapters 9-16. In addition,
the students will be learning how to participate in their first literature circle discussion.
There will not be a test or quiz over Island of the Blue Dolphins this week. 


Wordly Wise Lesson 8 words were assigned last week. Lesson 8 homework will be due
on Friday, February 7th. There will not be a Wordly Wise test this week. 


Language Arts (Mrs. Isaminger):
This week, the students will continue chapter 6 of Shurley English. Chapter 6 teaches
possessive nouns, interjections, clauses, subordinate conjunctions, and complex sentences.
There will not be a Shurley English test this week, but there will be a Shurley English test
over chapter 6 on Wednesday, February 12th. 


Writing (Mrs. Isaminger):
This week, the students will begin researching a chosen sea animal for the purpose of writing a
research paper. 


Bible (Miss Reech)
MV: Hebrews 11:1 - “Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what
we do not see.” This week we will be learning about faith. Students will read about
examples of faith from the Bible and will learn how they can live by faith.  Our
Bible test will be on Tuesday, February 4.


Spelling (Miss Reech)
10 words will be given Monday and Tuesday. Students received instructions on how
 to complete homework for Monday and Tuesday located in their 
Reech folder. 7 words will be used each night. On Wednesday we will take a
 practice test. If students make a 100 A+, they do not have to take the test on 
Friday. Our test on all 21 words will be on Friday.


Social Studies (Miss Reech)
We will conclude our unit on our federal, state, and local governments in 
preparation for our field trip to the New State Capital and Governor’s Mansion on 
Thursday, February 6.  Our Unit Test will be Tuesday, February 4th. Students will also
complete and present their brochure about the New State Capitol this week. 


Science (Mrs. Jaques)
We will continue our unit on electric circuits.  In cooperative groups, students will
use batteries, wires, and lightbulbs to create a closed circuit.  They will learn the
difference between series and parallel circuits. They will have a vocabulary test on
Friday, February 7.  In the Innovation Lab, the students will create shoe box rooms
with multiple working circuits. 

Math (Mrs. Jaques)
The fourth graders will complete the chapter titled, “Number Theory.”  The students
will learn the divisibility rules for 2, 3, 5, 6, 9, and 10. They will also find factors and
multiples of given numbers as well as identify prime, composite, and square numbers.
The students will have the Chapter 16 test on Wednesday, February 5.   The students
will have a review quiz on the daily packet on Friday, February 7. On Wednesday,
February 12, the students will have a timed basic-facts division test on facts to ten.
