What’s Happening in Fourth Grade

Week of January 13, 2020

Reading (Mrs. Isaminger):
This week, the students will continue reading Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O’Dell.
The students were introduced to Wordly Wise Lesson 7 words last week. Wordly Wise Lesson
7 homework will be due on Friday. There will not be a reading or Wordly Wise test this week.

Language Arts (Mrs. Isaminger):
This week, the students will finish Chapter 5 of Shurley English. Chapter 5 teaches helping verbs,
the “not” adverb, natural and inverted word order, coordinate conjunctions, and compound
sentences. There will be a Shurley English test on Thursday, January 16th.

Writing (Mrs. Isaminger):
This week, the students will compose, revise, and edit a persuasive letter written to
Mrs. LaPlace.

Bible (Miss Reech)
MV: 2 Corinthians 5:21 - “God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we
might become the righteousness of God.” This week’s Bible lesson is about Jesus being
a sacrifice for us. We are learning about the first Passover and making
connections between the Passover and Jesus dying on the cross. Our Bible test will
be Friday, January 17th. It will be an open workbook Bible test.

Spelling (Miss Reech)
10 words will be given Monday and Tuesday. Students received instructions on how to
complete homework for Monday and Tuesday located in their Reech folder. Seven
words will be used each night. On Wednesday we will take a practice test. If
students make a 100 A+, they do not have to take the test on Thursday. Our test on
all 21 words will be on Thursday.

Social Studies (Miss Reech)
We have begun our unit on the United States government. We will be focusing on our
federal, state, and local governments. Students should be studying their new vocabulary
words.

Science (Mrs. Jaques)
We will continue our unit on light and sound energy.  The students will compare and
contrast these two forms of energy.

Math (Mrs. Jaques)
Next week, we will continue the process of long division from Chapter 14 as we
increase the dividend.  The students will also learn how to divide with zeros in the
quotient. On Tuesday, January 14, the students will have a review quiz on their skills
learned last week in their Week 20 daily packet.  On January 22 the students will
have a timed basic-facts division quiz. They may practice at the following website:
