What’s Happening in Fourth Grade
Week of January 20, 2020
Reading (Mrs. Isaminger):
This week, the students will continue reading Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O’Dell.
There will be a quiz over chapters 1-8 on Tuesday, January 28th.

This week, the students will begin chapter 6 of Shurley English. Chapter 6 teaches possessive
nouns, interjections, clauses, subordinate conjunctions, and complex sentences.

Writing (Mrs. Isaminger):
This week, the students will finish revising and editing a persuasive letter written to
Mrs. LaPlace.

Bible (Miss Reech)
MV: 2 Timothy 1:9 - “He has saved us and called us to a holy life - not because of
anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was
given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time.” This week we will be
learning about grace and how grace does not rely on our works. We are saved by
God’s grace. We will not have a Bible test this week.
Spelling (Miss Reech)
10 words will be given Tuesday and Wednesday. Students received instructions on
how to complete homework for Tuesday and Wednesday located in their Reech
folder. 7 words will be used each night. On Thursday we will take a practice test.
If students make a 100 A+, they do not have to take the test on Friday. Our test
on all 21 words will be on Friday.

Social Studies (Miss Reech)
We will continue our unit on the United States government. We will be focusing on
our federal, state, and local governments. Our vocabulary quiz will be Wednesday,
January 22. We will have mystery Skypes this week as well!

We will finish our unit on energy waves and light/sound energy. The students started a
study guide on Friday and will complete it on Tuesday. The unit test will be on
Friday, Jan. 24

Next week, we will continue the process of long division from Chapter 14 as we
increase the dividend. The students will also learn how to divide with zeros in the
quotient. They will have the Chapter 14 (long division) test on Thursday, January 23.
On January 22 the students will have a timed basic-facts division quiz. They may
practice at the following website:
