What’s Happening in Fourth Grade
Week of September 3, 2019

them during class when all of the students are working at once. They will keep their earbuds in
the zipper compartment on the outside of their binders.

Reading (Mrs. Isaminger):
This week, the students will begin reading “Stormalong” and “Hoderi the Fisherman” in the
Journeys text (Lesson 5). The Journeys text can be accessed online through Think Central.

will not be a reading test this week. The students will complete various Wordly Wise activities in
class to support their understanding of the Lesson One vocabulary words. There will be a Lesson
One Wordly Wise test on Friday, September 6th.

Writing (Mrs. Isaminger):
This week, the students will learn about the first trait of the Six Traits of Writing: Ideas. The
students will learn how to generate ideas as a pre-writing strategy when given an assigned prompt.

MV: 2 Timothy 2:15 - “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker
who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.” We will be learning
how to use Bible Study Tools such as the concordance, timelines, and maps to help us learn

We are beginning our unit on latitude and longitude. We are focusing on absolute location,
relative location, Equator, and Prime Meridian. Students defined their vocabulary words on
Friday.

Science (Mrs. Jaques)
Next week, we will continue our unit on climate. Each student will become a “Junior
Climatologist” for a city of their choice in the world. They will be responsible for
collecting and reporting weather data and sunlight patterns for their city. We will use
this journal throughout the year in both math and science.

We will continue with Chapter 3 on strategies for adding and subtracting numbers
through the millions place. On Friday,September 6, the students will have the
Chapter 3 test. On Tuesday, September 10, the students will have a timed basic-facts
subtraction test on differences to 12. They may practice at the following website:
