What’s Happening in Fourth Grade

Week of March 2, 2020

Reading (Mrs. Isaminger):
This week, the students will work on a culminating in-class project over the Island of the
Blue Dolphins.  Wordly Wise Lesson 9 vocabulary words will be introduced this week. There
will not be a reading test or Wordly Wise test this week.

Language Arts (Mrs. Isaminger):
This week, the students will continue chapter 7 of Shurley English. Chapter 7 teaches direct
objects, transitive verbs, verb tenses, regular and irregular verbs,  and tenses of helping
verbs. There will not be a Shurley English test this week.

Writing (Mrs. Isaminger):
This week, the students will begin organizing their research notes into a written rough draft.

Bible (Miss Reech)
MV: 1 Corinthians 3:16 - “Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and
that God’s Spirit lives in you?” This week students will continue learning about the
Holy Spirit and how Jesus gives Him to believers as a Helper. Our project in
Innovation lab will focus on the fruits of the spirit. Our Bible test will be
Wednesday, March 4th.

Spelling (Miss Reech)
10 words will be given Monday and Tuesday. Students received instructions on how
to complete homework for Monday and Tuesday located in their
Reech folder. 7 words will be used each night. On Wednesday we will take a
practice test. If students make a 100 A+, they do not have to take the test on
Thursday. Our test on all 21 words will be on Thursday.

Social Studies (Miss Reech)
The chapter test for chapter 3, The New England States, will be Tuesday, March 3rd.
The chapter test will include a map portion of the Northeast states. Students have a
corrected study guide along with a map of the specific states labeled. They can practice
the location of the states at sheppardsoftware.com.  Our next topic will be the
Mid-Atlantic States. We will define our vocabulary and begin learning about the
geography of the region.

Science (Mrs. Jaques)
We will continue our unit on the scientific method and explore many sample projects.
We will be learning about each step in the Scientific Method and how to apply each step
to their own project.

Math (Mrs. Jaques)
We will continue our unit on fractions. They will add and subtract fractions and mixed
numbers with like and unlike denominators. We will have a daily review quiz on Tuesday,
March 3 on the latest packet in the Daily folder. On Wednesday, March 11, the students
will have a timed basic-facts multiplication/division mixed test.  They may practice at
