What’s Happening in Fourth Grade
Week of November 4, 2019
Reading (Mrs. Isaminger):
This week, the students will read “Kai’s Journey to Gold Mountain” and “My Japanese Sister”
from the Harcourt text. This textbook is kept in the classroom. The students will read the
story and analyze the plot for plot structure. The students will also practice comparing texts
through writing. There will not be a reading test this week. The students will be assigned
Wordly Wise Lesson 5 vocabulary words this week. Homework for the Lesson 5 vocabulary
will be due on Thursday, November 14th. There will not be a Wordly Wise test this week.

Reading Project for Second Nine Weeks: The students will be reading an assigned novel and
completing a project connected to the novel. The project guidelines and due dates were sent
home on Friday. The project guidelines can be found in the “Isaminger” folder in your child’s
binder. Your child needs to keep those guidelines in his or her binder on a daily basis as
the guidelines may also be used in class.

This week, the students will continue Chapter 4 of Shurley English. Chapter 4 teaches
subject pronouns, possessive pronouns, conjunctions, and homonyms. There will not be a

This week, the students will finish their chosen news article assignment, and the students
will begin to revise and edit their writing in order to prepare for publication.

Bible (Miss Reech)

Spelling (Miss Reech)
10 words will be given Monday and Tuesday. Students received instructions on how to
complete homework for Monday and Tuesday located in their Reech folder. 7 words will
be used each night. On Wednesday we will take a practice test. If students make a
100 A+, they do not have to take the test on Thursday. Our test on all 21 words will be
on Thursday.

We are continuing our unit on Brazil. We will be learning about the geography and the
history of Brazil. Continue to study the vocabulary words.

Next week, we will continue our Chemistry Unit. The students will learn about the
properties of mixtures and solutions. They will also learn about physical and chemical

digit numbers by 1 digit numbers to find the exact product. They will have a review
quiz on their Week 11 daily math problems on Thursday, November 7. On Friday,
November 8, the students will have a timed basic-facts multiplication test. They may
