What’s Happening in Fourth Grade
Week of October 28, 2019
Reading (Mrs. Isaminger):
This week, the students will read “Mighty Jackie” from the Harcourt text. This textbook is kept
in the classroom. The students will read the story and analyze the plot for plot structure.
There will not be a reading test this week. The students were assigned Wordly Wise
Lesson 4 words last week. The assigned Lesson 4 homework pages will be due on Tuesday,
October 29th. The Wordly Wise Lesson 4 test will be on Thursday, October 31st.

an assigned novel and completing a project connected to the novel. The project guidelines and
due dates were sent home on Friday. The project guidelines can be found in the “Isaminger”
folder in your child’s binder. Your child needs to keep those guidelines in his or her binder
on a daily basis as the guidelines may also be used in class.

Language Arts (Mrs. Isaminger):
This week, the students will continue Chapter 4 of Shurley English. Chapter 4 teaches subject
pronouns, possessive pronouns, conjunctions, and homonyms. There will not be a test in Shurley
English this week.

Writing (Mrs. Isaminger):
This week, the students will write a news article about the events found in their assigned reading,
“Mighty Jackie.” The students will then begin to generate ideas about real-life news stories they
are interested in writing.

Bible (Miss Reech)
MV: Genesis 1:27 - “So God created man in His own image, in the image of God he created
him; male and female He created them.” This week we are learning about how we are
created in God’s image. Not our looks, but through our spirit, relationships, and authority.

Spelling (Miss Reech)
Ten words will be given Monday and Tuesday. Students received instructions on how to
complete homework for Monday and Tuesday located in their Reech folder. Seven words
will be used each night. On Wednesday we will take a practice test. If students make
a 100 A+, they do not have to take the test on Thursday. Our test on all 21 words will
be on Thursday.

Social Studies (Miss Reech)
We are traveling to South America! We are beginning our unit on Brazil. Students
received their new vocabulary words Friday. We will be learning about the geography
and the history of Brazil.

Next week, we will begin a unit on Chemistry. The students will learn about the properties
of mixtures and solutions. They will also learn about physical and chemical changes.

We will complete Chapter 9 on using multiplication and division to write and evaluate
expressions and equations with variables. The students will also figure out the pattern
of input/output tables and express the rule using equations with variables. On
Wednesday, October 30 they will have the Chapter 9 test. The students will have a
quiz on their daily packet Tuesday, October 29. The following week they will have
another timed basic fact multiplication quiz and may practice at the following website:
