What’s Happening in Fourth Grade
Week of November 18, 2019
Reading (Mrs. Isaminger):
This week, we will begin a unit on poetry. The students will learn about various types of poetry,
the structure of poetry, and figurative language. The students reviewed and checked their
Wordly Wise Lesson 5 homework assignment last week, and the Wordly Wise Lesson 5 test
will be on Tuesday, November 19th.

For the second nine weeks, the students will be reading an assigned novel and completing a
project connected to the novel. The project guidelines can be found in the “Isaminger”
folder in your child’s binder. Your child needs to keep those guidelines in his or her binder
on a daily basis as the guidelines may also be used in class.

Language Arts (Mrs. Isaminger):
This week, the students will begin Chapter 5 of Shurley English. Chapter 5 teaches helping verbs,
the “not” adverb, natural and inverted word order, coordinate conjunctions, and compound
sentences. There will not be a Shurley English test this week.

This week, the students will continue writing a chosen news article about an event happening at
Dunham or in the community.

Bible (Miss Reech)
MV: 1 Corinthians 15:57 - “But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our
Lord Jesus Christ.” We are learning about thankfulness and how to make it a habit in
our lives. Our Bible test will be Friday, November 22.

Spelling (Miss Reech)
Ten words will be given Monday and Tuesday. Students received instructions on how to
complete homework for Monday and Tuesday located in their Reech folder. Seven words
will be used each night.The spelling test will be Wednesday. There is no practice test
this week.

Social Studies (Miss Reech)
Students will complete and share their Brazil green screen projects. We are beginning
our chapter on Caribbean South America. Students will define vocabulary words
Wednesday. These words can be located on my blog, under the social studies tab. We
will begin learning about the geography of the area and move on to the history.

Next week, we will complete our unit on Chemistry. The students will learn about the
properties of mixtures and solutions. They will also learn about physical and chemical
changes. There will be an open packet test on Friday, November 22.

We will continue the skills in Chapter 11. The students will calculate the products of
2-digit whole numbers by multiples of ten. They will also use the distributive property
of multiplication to find the product of large factors. The Chapter 11 test will be on
Thursday, November 21. This coming Tuesday the 19th, the students will have a review
quiz on their daily packet skills. On Tuesday, December 10, the students will have a
timed basic-facts division test. They may practice at the following website:
