What’s Happening in Fourth Grade
Week of September 30, 2019
Reading (Mrs. Isaminger):
This week, the students will continue reading the novel, Frindle. The students will acquire new
vocabulary associated with the novel and will work on reading skills as well. The students will
have an open book/open notes quiz over Chapters 1-6 on Thursday, October 3rd. The students
will work on whole class review activities for the Wordly Wise Lesson 3 words as well.
The Wordly Wise Lesson 3 test will be on Wednesday, October 2nd.

This week, the students will continue Chapter 3 of Shurley English. Chapter 3 teaches
prepositions, objects of prepositions, prepositional phrases, and subject-verb agreement.

This week, the students will continue working on a persuasive letter. The students will take on
the “voice” of a turkey requesting he or she be pardoned from the Thanksgiving meal.

Bible (Miss Reech)
MV: Jeremiah 32:17 ”Ah, Sovereign Lord, you have made the heavens and the earth

are continuing to learn about the attributes of God, and that God is omnipotent,
all powerful. Our Bible test will be Thursday, October 4th.

Spelling (Miss Reech)
Students received their word list on Friday. They should have instructions on how
to complete homework for Monday and Tuesday stapled to the front of their spelling
notebook. 7 words will be used each night. There will be a practice test on Wednesday.
If the students receive a 100 A+, they will not need to take the test on Thursday.

Social Studies (Miss Reech)
Landform Projects are due Thursday and Friday of this week. We are continuing our
unit on Canada, our neighbors to the North. We have learned about the geography and
will be learning about the history this week. Our test will not be until the following week.

Next week, we will continue our unit on climate. The students will learn the composition
of the air in Earth’s atmosphere and the conditions that affect the climate of a place.

We will begin next week by doing various elapsed time activities to reinforce the skill
of time. Midweek, we will begin Chapter 8. The students will multiply and divide facts
through twelve. They will also multiply two or more factors using the properties of
multiplication and decide which operation to use in different word problems. On
Tuesday, October 1 , the students will have a timed basic-facts subtraction test on
differences to twenty. They may practice at the following website:
